A Preview of Winter in Windham

WFA’s “Autumn Social” Canceled due to Early Nor’easter!
It was a strange and surreal sight to behold this weekend. Trees limbs clumped with powdery white. Branches lightly traced with snow and ice. Grey skies swirling with thick flakes. The all-too familiar sound of heavy-duty plows barreling down the roads. Saturday night was a reminder that the seasons are constantly turning, whether or not we’re ready for them to do so! Yes, it was a tad bit early, and yes, it presented its hassles, its traveling annoyances, its headaches. But the kid in me rejoiced to watch it piling up. And I must admit, I enjoyed tossing the perfect snowballs (wet snow packs quite easily), and watching my dog tear circles around the yard, delirious with joy!

Whether fans of the white stuff or not, this looks like a good omen for Windham, perhaps heralding in an exciting ski season. And so, although we were disappointed to have to cancel our “Autumn Social” at the gallery this weekend, we feel hopeful for a vibrant winter season en route. Anyway, it’s hard to begrudge Mother Nature’s mercurial poses too much. This early snow will melt quickly, revealing what’s left of the brass and orange foliage (it was already halfway melted as I drove up the mountain on Sunday morning). And we’ll get another chance to relish the brisk autumn season before the deep freeze of winter comes, bringing with it all those invigorating outdoor activities facilitated by snow.
Okay, so now we’ve had a rare “white Halloween”… Here’s hoping we’ll have a white Christmas too!
