Opening Reception: Iconic Landscapes and Portraits of Everyday Icons

Come to the opening reception Saturday, December 12, 5-8PM in the gallery! WFA is pleased to present the romantic landscapes of Hudson Valley painter Kevin Cook in an unusual pairing with the iconically styled portraiture of NYC artist Gail Postal! Both of our artists create representational works. Representing reality in a way that has deeper meaning allows us to reflect on larger meanings as we head into our holiday season. I have chosen to play on the word “icon” in this show’s title because its most elemental meaning is from the Greek word for “image” or “likeness”. Both artists are “realists” in that the starting point is the depiction of something perceivable to anyone’s eye, not solely a creation of the artist’s interior eye. And yet each artist aspires to something beyond the observable, something higher, perhaps spiritual… Perfect to set the tone for holiday celebrations!
