Kim Do, combines extraordinary skill with a great respect for the natural world. Just two hundred feet from the porch of his Catskill Mountain home, the Westkill Creek meets the Schoharie Creek. "The landscape evokes childhood memories of growing up near the East River in New York City…as well as feelings about my family and my living along these ever-moving bodies of water." Kim was born in New York City in 1954. He earned a B.F.A. degree from SUNY Purchase and and M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, he teaches at the Horace Mann School. His work has also been very successful in Philadelphia galleries such as the Gross McCleaf Gallery and the Independence Seaport Museum. "Art is a process of bridging the gap between the interior self and the exterior world…with each new painting I become less concerned with representation and more concerned with establishing connections with the outer world." Kim's intimacy with the landscape brings forth life and spirit in each painting.
