"Painting allows me to express my feelings about life; the most basic and simple concepts are the most important. My work is about light and color. My goal is to create two dimensional reality from my sensory perceptions. I love the fresh and direct quality oil paint has. I try to capture the essence of my subject through broad, direct brush strokes, which have become an important part of each composition.
Painting is communication; my goal is to capture the brief and fleeting visual excitement of our everyday lives, to connect and communicate that to each person who views my work. A quote from Edward Hopper which has always inspired me very much, "To me, form, color and design are merely a means to an end, the tools I work with; and they do not interest me greatly for their own sake. I am interested primarily in the vast field of experience which neither literature nor a purely plastic art deals with."
