James Coe's Bird Studies

Biography

James Coe blurs the line between realism and impressionism. Coe is well known for his realistic field guide illustrations in which he diplays his precise accuracy in his handling of birds. He uses a loose impressionistic style to depict local landscapes, these two styles merge in his latest works. "This allows me to work loosely and confidently on the birds so that the handling of the birds and the landscape can be equally deft because I'm not hesitating." Coe has shown in the Bennington Center for the Arts, the Massachusetts Autobon's Visual Arts Center, and the New York State Musuem.
